The importance of having an ETRM capability has increased recently for smaller and medium-sized players. New entrants, volatile fuel prices, and market restructuring have increased the need for utilities and other organizations to track exposure and risk. In summary, FERC Order 2222 is a rule requiring ISOs and RTOs in the U.S. to develop plans that give Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) access to wholesale energy markets.

The purpose of MOD-030 is to increase consistency and reliability in the development and documentation of transfer capability calculations for short-term use performed by entities using the Flowgate Methodology to support analysis and system operations.

CACW Ep. 02 | FERC 881

Our second episode of ‘Charging Ahead with Utilicast’ is on FERC Order 881. FERC Order 881 requires transmission providers to implement ambient-adjusted ratings (AAR) to determine the maximum transfer capability of their transmission lines for near-term transmission services.

In this episode, we address the challenges and implications stemming from FERC Order 881 and Utilicast’s recommendation on the best path forward for utilities to achieve minimum acceptable AAR capability and thereby come into compliance.

Meet Chris Unton, Utilicast’s Compliance Lead. Chris studied Computer Science before earning an MBA. Prior to joining Utilicast in 2013, Chris worked at two utility organizations, a large Midwest utility followed by a major ISO/RTO. During his 20+ year career, he built a perspective that understands operations, IT and compliance.

Chris and his team stay on top of NERC & FERC’s latest standards and requirements. They collaborate with our clients to establish process-based solutions that they can integrate into their operational culture. Utilicast provides our clients with Mock Audits, Gap Assessments, and Design & Architecture of Compliance Program buildout.
