Rick Schaal

Mr. Schaal brings an expansive set of experiences and subject matter expertise managing projects associated with the development and delivery of Energy Management Systems (EMS), Energy Imbalance Markets, Market Settlement Systems, Substation Automation, and projects involving Distributed Energy Resources optimization projects enabling entities’ participation in Energy and Capacity Demand Response markets. Rick has been directly involved in programs and projects delivering to the operational needs and requirements of Electric Utility companies throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, Australia, and Europe, taking up residence in many of those locations to better support the needs of Utilities being served. Since 2013, Rick has been providing project management and technical design leadership to many Pacific Northwest Regional entities.  This includes both EMS and Energy Imbalance Markets integration projects supporting the Bonneville Power Administration, Tacoma Power, Seattle City Light, Portland General Electric, and an NWPP MC Initiative working with 33 member utility companies and Peak Reliability. This effort resulted in the design and implementation of regional application tools to enhanced the overall reliability of the Pacific Northwest footprint.
